“Open the Whole Thing Up”
On January 12, 2007, two days after President George W. Bush’s speech to the nation about adding more U.S. troops in Iraq for a “surge,” developments that had been in process came together for me/us. During meditation and in the bathtub later, I was being asked from multidimensional sources if I were available. By this time, I knew it was an I/we—me and my body organism. Were we available to go wherever all this took us? When I checked with my body it said a very definite yes. And so it became a “Yes, we are available.”
Earlier in the day I had realized that I/we were uniquely positioned with the Understandings, background, multidimensionality, appropriate connections everywhere, and a desire to play our part in the emerging global drama. I also realized I/we are not pawns or puppets; instead, as a composite being we are originators, deciders, and partners amidst a whole web-work of connections and dimensions.
Furthermore, it became clear that we needed to add another chapter beyond what I had been consciously aware of previously.
And so here is some of the developing background that led up to the decision to go wherever the process took us, and to add another chapter. Prior to that time, each significant moment seemed to open up new areas for expansions and unfoldments.
One day in later December 2006, Jim and I were talking about a probable trip in the fall of 2007. As we shared our thoughts, it became very clear that individual interpretations and “sensing” are as significant as originations, translations, and applications. I became aware that even though Jim and I could both be emphasizing patterns for the highest good of all being everywhere in an all-things-considered sense and attuning ourselves to what that is in each specific situation, what else those designs were relating with in each of our psychic structures and how we interpreted our sensing, could be quite different from the conclusions the other one reached. This Understanding was important, to be included in further developments.
On December 21st, “we” celebrated the winter solstice. For some, this is the beginning of another solar year; for us it is the start of the fourth quarter of our natural world year that began with the spring equinox in March.
When former President Gerald R. Ford passed on, December 26, 2006, at age 93, my body organism decided it was a good time to read Ron Suskind’s book, The One Percent Doctrine, about Vice President Richard Cheney and the George W. Bush presidency. Suskind is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. At the time of Ford’s passing, some key players from the Ford Administration were also key players in the current Bush Administration, such as Vice President Cheney and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld. I had bought Suskind’s book earlier in the year after hearing him interviewed by Diane Rehm in June 2006, but the appropriate time to read it had not emerged until late December 2006. (And, said with humor, that book still wasn’t part of the contents of my three baskets of probable materials to read, see, or hear.)
While reading Suskind’s sequential and wide-lensed development of events during the George W. Bush Administration, I experienced it as a fascinating page-turner. I was thrilled to have achieved a steady position and perspective of seeing the various participants amidst their belief structures and the inevitable results. It was the same type of experience I had with my father in the later 1970s—when what I’ve termed penetrating Understandings emerge, just about all that's left are feelings of Compassion and Love for each one of us.
I applied my recent Understanding-experience about the importance of interpretations to what I read about President George W. Bush using his “gut instincts,” which to my way of thinking are intermixed with the religious and other patterns he uses for his interpretations of divine guidance.
During my reading of The One Percent Doctrine, multiple pictures flowed forth of people’s worldviews, backgrounds, experiences, and interactions, where various aspects of our U.S. policies since 9/11/01—and others’ reactions to the United States—all easily moved into place with one another.
And even though there was a strong focus upon using different ways of thinking than those used in past administrations for their actions—proactive, preventative, and responsive—I saw the Bush Administration’s key players still functioning within DCBA matrixes and wavelengths of fear, war and tragedies, with winners and losers.
On Sunday, December 31, 2006, at a window table along the river at a favorite restaurant, Jim and I celebrated the cultural time transition to 2007. During brunch, Jim talked about a couple of things he would potentially be doing when he finished his current studies of musical composition and deeper Understandings of music in general. He thought he’d be using some of his past photographs—one group taken from his kayak in a natural world area a few years ago, and another group that recorded some of his mother’s final years—and make them into motion-picture narrative stories. My immediate response was enthusiasm as I said, “What a delightful way to use your past Life and its resource materials!” Next he expressed ideas about wanting to do some writing sometime—possibly poetry, essays, and reality fiction.
As I sat there listening to Jim talk about the future, some answers to unspoken questions he and I hadn’t discussed—about the volatile global situations and what might be happening in the future—coalesced from what I interpreted as multidimensional sources. A type of certainty emerged when I said, “I can understand the fears and preventative measures the Bush Administration is taking within the matrixes they are operating within, where from many people’s points of view it isn’t a matter of whether there will be terrorism here in the U.S. in the form of using nuclear, chemical, and/or biological materials—the questions are when and where.
"But, from my point of view, me and my body organism are within a vaster matrix on a different wavelength, and we are inwardly hearing there are ‘stoppers’ that some of us spirit-beings who are with human forms have been setting forth for a long time in relationship with other spirit-beings. Look at what happened when you and I lived in the Sierras and were just sick about the probabilities we saw in play then about a global nuclear confrontation (between the U.S. and U.S.S.R). Many people, ourselves included, have been praying for peace beyond war—and divine help. Well, I think that for decades many of us humans have been playing our parts as have other aspects of divinity been playing theirs—all together—and this is what I mean by ‘stoppers.’ Just look at past probable crises that have been averted!”
I shook my head as I said, “I don’t know whether those who are currently writing any type of Armageddon script will be able to really play that out.” Jim’s response was, “They may be able to do so in limited places.” He and I nodded our heads in agreement.
Then I concluded, “Well, I sure know what to do for my part, which is to energize a reality where there are stoppers to global catastrophes, that are being set forth by those of us who are choosing a different reality than the DCBA one."
The next day, January 1, 2007, while in a telephone conversation with my daughter, Kim, I was reminded of how important I think it is to be able to purposely move around to various positions and “places” within one’s psyche. After we got off the phone I made a note to put this suggestion forth for those who choose to explore an identity as an Essential I/spirit-being. Awareness of this flexible ability, and the skill development of same, had been a centrality for what I would have developed for an Essential I/spirit-being CD.
On January 1st, “we” chose our emphasis for the cultural year of 2007 to be one of continuous well-being, with delightful opportunities throughout. Therefore, in that immediate (and spacious) present we were energizing four central focuses—well-being including full health, moving forth with activities our body organism was choosing, opening the whole thing up, and being amidst our personally crafted matrix in a DCIO reality. All together, they would be interwoven as skillfully as possible, with events from our four time frames and cultural concentric circles of connections.
The very next day—Tuesday, January 2nd—some of those sensed expanding experiences that were still to come emerged. During the morning, via television Jim and I watched the funeral service of former President Gerald R. Ford at the Washington (D.C.) National Cathedral. Ford’s decency was stressed, and his sincere desire to heal a nation already torn apart by Vietnam seemed to be major factors in his pardoning of President Richard M. Nixon, the man Ford replaced in August 1974 when Nixon resigned rather than being impeached for Watergate. Along with what else I knew about Ford, after hearing the Bible verses that were read and perspectives expressed during the service, I commented to Jim, “ I think Jerry Ford’s version of God was a Loving and forgiving one.”
As I carefully listened to the contents of the service, from deep recesses of my being came forth some perspectives that the One God being talked about in the service was an interpretation and translation from deeper levels—of us all being part of the One.
On January 6, 2007, “we“ finished the Suskind book and reread the two folders of associated materials we’d accumulated. Throughout The One Percent Doctrine, I felt Ron Suskind’s focus on getting as close as he could to what happened, and presenting the clearest, most comprehensive pictures he was able to formulate. Thank you, Ron. I also appreciated the analyses he provided regarding backgrounds, worldviews, actions, interactions, and relationships among the various players. I expressed to Jim that this reading further clarified a lot more for me, especially regarding the very complex overall male psychic structure in the DCBA world and some of the results, as its components were and are being used individually.
According to Suskind, the Cheney Doctrine is said to be that a one percent chance of catastrophe must be treated as a certainty, where firm evidence of either intent or capability is too high a threshold. Hence, the Cheney Doctrine was set forth to protect the U.S. at all costs from any potential threats, including nuclear. Then there is a corollary Bush doctrine that spoke of prevention and preemptive strikes. Spreading this combined picture out, I saw more clearly why certain actions by our U.S. government had been and were being taken.
As I understood it, Cheney and Rumsfeld had interpreted and translated events from the Nixon era into personal perspectives of seeing an unfortunate erosion of executive powers that they were determined to reinstate. So, their worldviews were well-formulated when the Bush Administration began in January 2001. Then, the events of 9/11/01 became a centrality for the assumption of more powers into the executive branch of government when George W. Bush became a “wartime president” who was invoking executive privileges. All of this seems to have fit Bush’s persona, where he could go with “his gut,” improvise, be aggressive, and experience action. President Bush described the war on terrorism as “the calling of our generation.”
Before 9/11 there had also been an emerging belief by some in the U.S., after what was seen to be the defeat of the U.S.S.R., that since there was only one super power now—and we were it—we should flex our muscles and tell other countries and people what to do, without needing collaboration and cooperation. This way of thinking often included perspectives that democracy and an American-type secular/religious freedom should be spread throughout the world.
And what else had been going on? While all of this was in motion in the United States of America leading up to 9/11/01, other nations and various groups around the globe were and are part of a changing world. Some of them saw and see themselves as having more opportunities, especially with nuclear and chemical weapons combined with developing technologies and communication networks. Therefore, they aren’t being controlled and dominated in ways that worked in earlier times.
The new era that began on 9/11/01 had been developing for years, including militant Islamists who want to establish a worldwide Islamic caliphate. Hence, when the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and especially Iraq, President Bush could be seen as a crusader with an “infidel” army, providing a reason for many people to orient around a holy cause for Allah, their version of God. From what I read and hear, there is an expanding, worldwide militant Islamist goal by some, of replacing democracy, capitalism, and secularism with certain versions of Islamic beliefs and Islamic laws. Then, intermixed within their designs is the concept of a worldwide community of Islam, where an attack on one part of it is an attack on all parts.
I've heard people talk about a clash of civilizations. I would say this can be seen as a clash of belief structures, within a current-day framework of winners and losers.
In an interview with Time magazine that was described in the 10/30/06 issue, Vice President Cheney was asked if he thought in his lifetime going to Iraq will be widely seen as visionary. He responded, "I do." Then he went into his reasons. Personally, I have no idea whether this will happen in the future or not. I think it will depend upon many factors, such as forthcoming events in the Middle East and elsewhere, and what else is happening monetarily and environmentally. As I Understand it, to the best of his ability, Cheney was doing what he thought needed to be done from the worldview he uses, to play out the role of protector.
These observations about members of the George W. Bush Administration using many predominately male patterns—which included protect, provide, produce, control, and win—can also apply to their perspectives about the United States needing ongoing and increasing energy supplies to keep the economy moving along, and to keep the nation strong amidst a dangerous and competitive world. This picture explains to me some of their attitudes about global warming and other environmental realities; that is, their steadfast, primary emphasis was their version of maintaining a powerful and dominant United States, economically and militarily.
From the immediate present, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have played their parts so well—Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George W. Bush, George Tenet (CIA director during 9/11/01), and others, within what I consider to be a spirit-being experiment for the past thousands of years—what I've termed a DCBA reality—that I think is coming to a close. As I see them, they have all given the rest of us vivid current-day pictures of the results of specific belief patterns in action.
In early January 2007, my body organism began sending strong messages that it wanted to move on, but what did that mean? When I/we got into already-read materials that had been stored in the closet in our personal room from October 2004, before the U.S. November election in 2004 to the present, I thought we’d just box them up—that is, until we got into them. There were many interesting articles that were pertinent to today, and so another culling process took place of taking out those to be read again. I was realizing that these were opportunities in terms of really completing my/our involvement with the DCBA world, but this time from an expanded position.
By the second week of January 2007, a combination of inner guidance came together: to follow my own advice and move around in “our” psychic structure; be frequently empty and go into emptiness; to frequently see me and my body organism without any conceptual pictures; and to remove all time frames as ongoing operating patterns from our psyche. (Of course, one or a mixture of our four time frames could be used when appropriate, but this could really loosen them up.) What I was inwardly hearing was that together, all these emphases would result in opening everything up much more, while also being even more fully engaged in each moment. “We” weren't going anywhere; there is here and now. I had a strong sense that no matter how long it took in terms of process, to savor each moment each day!
Meanwhile, Jim had also been involved with personal developments, both in the immediate and spacious present. With the new professional-quality music software he had recently received and the photographic software he would be getting in the spring or summer from Adobe's 2007 editions, he saw himself in a Life where there were no beginnings and endings—it was all a process of day-by-day choices and creative expressions.
By removing conceptual time frames as ongoing operating patterns, Life really became more of a daily process for me/us, too, of choices and creative expressions, such as Jim’s had become. What I inwardly heard later, as I contrasted this way of being with the manuscript process I had in mind previously—of completing our project and then being ready for new things—was to take time off when I/we want it (our time) … and to be aware that new things will be emerging all along the way now.
In that immediate present, on the floor of my/our room there was still part of the large pile of materials from October 2004 to the present I was going through, with another pile of recent cullings from them to read again, and a box of accumulating materials from that period to be stored downstairs. By then there were also three books from one of the three baskets of unread and unheard materials sitting on my desk that we would be dipping into soon, in addition to the two books about chi energy and Chinese painting.
This wasn't a new situation. I’d gone through many piles of materials and lots of books for earlier writings at various times, but this was being done from a different position, within a different matrix and wavelength, as a different me and now a “we” that is a blend of me and my body organism. Moreover, we had opened everything up and were available to play our part, whatever that meant.
